Terms Guard - Privacy Policy

Terms Guard ("the extension") is a browser extension that scans signup, trial, subscription, and checkout pages and the Terms, Privacy, Refund, and Cancellation pages they link to — and shows you the key contract risks before you commit. This policy explains how the extension handles information.

Summary

Terms Guard does not collect, store, sell, or transmit your personal information or browsing data to us or to any third party. All analysis happens locally in your browser. There are no analytics, no tracking, no accounts, and no external servers operated by us.

What the extension accesses

• Page content of the page you are on. When you are on a signup, trial, or checkout page, the extension reads the visible text of that page to detect contract-related terms. This text is processed in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
• Linked policy pages. To find the relevant clauses, the extension may fetch the text of the Terms, Privacy, Refund, or Cancellation pages that the page links to. That text is analyzed locally; only a small, non-personal summary of detected terms is cached on your device for up to 24 hours to avoid re-fetching.

What is stored on your device

The extension uses your browser's local storage (chrome.storage) only to keep, on your device:

• Your settings (such as whether the extension is enabled).
• Any cancel reminders you choose to create (the site name, the page link, the cancellation link, and the renewal date).
• A temporary 24-hour cache of detected terms for pages you have visited.

This information never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension or clearing its storage in your browser.

Permissions and why they are used

• Host access to websites — to read the current page and fetch the policy pages it links to, on whatever site you are visiting. Content is analyzed locally only.
• Storage — to save your settings, reminders, and the temporary local cache described above.
• Alarms — to schedule any cancel reminder you create.
• Notifications — to show that reminder shortly before a trial or subscription renews.

Data sharing

We do not sell or transfer any user data to third parties. We do not use any user data for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending. Because no data is collected or transmitted, there is no data for us to share.

Children

The extension is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
